About the Topic
From tornadoes to blizzards, Colorado’s weather is fast changing and stormy – sometimes all in the same day! I will talk about why our weather can be so crazy and how our Colorado climate is changing in a warming world.
The TV meteorologist is as close to a scientist as most Americans get, and we are invited into our viewer’s living rooms. This gives us a special opportunity and a responsibility to educate our viewers with the facts about global warming.
Bio
Mike Nelson received his degree in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Mike has authored two books on weather and climate, The Colorado Weather Almanac (2007) and The Colorado Weather Book (1999). He has also written numerous weather pamphlets and articles for magazines. Mike now spends considerable time writing and teaching about the science of and the solutions for Global Warming.
Mike has won 20 Emmy awards for Weather Excellence. He is also a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award and a two-time winner of the Colorado Broadcaster of the Year award.
In 2018, Mike was named a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Less than 1% of AMS members are so honored. Mike is the only television meteorologist in Colorado to ever receive be named an AMS Fellow and one of just 25 TV weather-casters nationwide.
