We’re holding a special edition Cafe Sci on Mon, Oct 30 @ the beautiful Fulginiti Pavilion from 6:30 – 8:00. Tiny flickering lights in the night sky (stars) have always been a source of fascination. Our own star, the sun, is vital to life on earth, but is so much a part of our everyday lives that we can take it for granted. What is inside our sun? Why should we care? Researchers trying to answer such questions have expanded our understanding of matter at temperatures as hot as the sun and lightning! Come glimpse the growing field of plasma physics to learn how studying the stuff of stars could lead to creating a ‘sun on earth’, and how industrial applications of plasmas enabled manufacturing the cell phone you hold in your hand.
